Kitchen details


Thinking a lot about how our kitchen cabinets/island etc. are going to work. I've already decided on Ikea's Applad range. It's plain, has a nice finish to it and is above all affordable.


I've been measuring out the spaces and trying to work out what sort of cabinets will go where.  I'm thinking simple cupboards along the wall and wide drawers under the island. One of the spaces for our kitchen cabinets will fit in 3 wide cupboards and 1 skinny so it's nice to see what it might look like.


When I saw this picture it started me off thinking about an open shelf below the slim wall cabinets we're going to have - question is, are we disciplined enough to keep them tidy!?


Now here we have the sink of my dreams - unfortunately it doesn't seem to exist in real life, at least in the UK anyway - trust me I've looked! So it got me thinking that perhaps we should have wall mounted taps over the sink? Might be a nice compromise?



Having rejected the smeg fridge freezer idea (after hearing some bad reviews on performance we went to look at one and decided that it really was just a very expensive lump of plastic!) I have been thinking about an integrated fridge freezer. Problem is that ikea don't do a cabinet in the size we want to get so I think we're going to have to get something bespoke. I've been looking at pictures of ply type cabinets and wondering if that might work. We could also incorporate fred's dream cupboard - one of those slim pull out things and storage to the ceiling to utilize space.

hmm, hadn't thought of painting them until this post evolved. Decisions decisions!
